Taurine powder…yes the human stuff is the same as the cat stuff…Yes you can take the cat stuff yourself…yes we throw it in our coffee sometimes for extra energy…yes it does make you pooh a little more…What does it do for our bengal cats? Bengals can tend towards HCM or hypertrophiccardiomyopathy- Taurine supplementation can prevent & fix that…You may notice one of your cats or kittens is not purring audibly…When you give them a little taurine powder in their food their purrs become louder or even audible…It is good for the cats’ heart…Kind of like RAISING blood pressure…Myself I am a low blood pressure type person- so taurine powder works well for me too…It is a blood pressure booster, so it is good for a skinny overactive cat like a bengal cat…Or person…But let’s be specific, it is not for all cats…So, know why you are giving it & only give it once in a while not everyday…It is strong & will make them a little kookier if you give too much…People too…

Barbeque Chicken cooked: chop into tiny little pieces…We get this on sale on Wednesday nights from Longo’s grocery store on Bloor near the Bay…

Canola Oil or Safflower oil or Olive Oil: if your bengal cat is having constipation or kidney problems (they will be peeing inappropriately), put some cooking oil on your hand, approach bengal not showing hand, then quickly rub oily hand on their fur…Once oil is on their fur they will lick it off…This will loosen the kidney block & help them pooh the block out…Use in cat emergencies!!!

Wild bird seed: we use Red ribbon wild bird seed from Canadian Tire as cat litter…No smell, flushable, scoop out the poop & reuse to feed your local birds…It is fine if you do this about once a week…Cheaper & no chemicals…Not clumping either…Don’t use bird seed that has peanuts in it or they won’t use it-they think the peanuts make it food so they won’t go on it…

Baths: bengal cats like water…Fill up tub halfway with warmish water…We add a drop or two of Paul Mitchell tea tree oil shampoo to the water…Find bengal cat…Pick up by sides so you cannot possibly get scratched or bitten…Very quickly walk with cat in hands to bathtub & put it without letting go…While holding cat still with one hand very quickly scrub butt & crotch, & you can massage anus slightly to release crusted up dirt…Don’t let go & massage coat lightly, then very quickly to face…Let cat jump out if they are miserable…If they are still fine, lift cat out & wrap in big towel & dry off…If cat was miserable let it run free soaking wet…They are fine…Sometimes they will let you later approach with a towel if they are still wet & cold…Do this whenever cat smells, you sneeze, they have gotten dirty, or they are having health issues…A good cleaning bath solves many problems…

Ipod, TV set, or ghetto blaster: Our bengal cats like the Spa channel on tv (738)…Leave that music on all day long if you are going out…Or leave your iPod on a speaker dock with enough music for the day…Or play spa CDs on your ghetto blaster…They really respond to music so really do this for them…& for you…

A word about the thermometer(experts only please): Every once in a while your bengal cats if they are intact will go into heat…Now if you are feeding them the Balance product (see above) they shouldn’t…But sometimes one cat is eating the other’s food so the other cat goes into heat by accident…Once this happens, give some balance in wet food quickly, but if the cat is singing all night long you need to learn the thermometer technique so you don’t go crazy…We learned the thermometer from a video online…Basically you get a thermometer that has a thick handle so you can easily hold it…When the singing cat is singing so loud you cannot sleep, get the thermometer out…Put the cat on your kitchen counter where the light is good…Hold the cat by the scruff if they are not still…Rub the lower back area so the cat’s bum goes up…This is called Lordosis…This is how they present their crotch for a male suitor…Very very gently insert the tip of the thermometer…Not far…The cat will scream & then there will be a release…Pull out the thermometer & let the cat squirm around…Then they will lick their crotch…Now go to sleep…They will be quiet after this…If the cat starts singing again, then give it another go…You just keep doing this until you can get some sleep…This is not something you need to do often, very rarely actually, but knowing how to do this will save you some sleep…The first time, maybe do this together with your husband, so you have help…Unless your female cat is scared of your male husband, then do it alone…(Note: This is more for animal whisperers, not for amateurs…So don’t try this if you are not an animal whisperer & for God’s sake do not insert the thermometer more than an inch…)
