Karma is a b-tch…(rhymes with kitsch)

http://jimphillips.com/SALE%20IMAGES/ecoguernica.jpg An “Original” work by Jim Phillips titled EcoGuernica…(selling for $1,200.00 )…(on tracing paper no less)

http://www.arts-wallpapers.com/wallpaper/guernica/01/Guernica.jpg What the real original Guernica painting looks like, by Pablo Picasso…

http://www.spin.com/blogs/jeremy-scott-rip-off-santa-cruz-skateboard-artist-jimbo-phillips An article & photomontage about how Jeremy Scott fashion designer ripped off Jim Phillips’ art…

Whenever I hear about an artist’s work being copied, I go & look at what the artist was doing…Their art work…

The last time I heard of a flagrant example of copying, the artist who was crying was doing paintings based on tracings from a photograph…A form of cheating(the camera is doing all the work, you are just tracing) in art, in & of itself…

Not that I think that copying someone else’s art work is ok…I don’t…

But Karma is a b-tch…(rhymes with itch)…

There is a whole kaffufle (tornado, storm), about this fashion designer using this artist’s art in their fashions…

So a quick look at the “wronged” artist’s website brought up an “original” painting called EcoGuernica…On ‘transparent’ paper…Now, a quick look at the real Guernica painting confirms that EcoGuernica is just a tracing from the original…Close enough…

So the “wronged” artist, Jim Phillips, is tracing from other artist’s works…

Hmm…Harumph…

Fashion designer Jeremy Scott definitely took Jim Phillips’ work without asking or paying a licensing fee…

But let’s be honest…Obviously Jim Phillips has been stealing too…

So who are we defending here? A guy who is lifting from Picasso, or a guy who is lifting from a guy who is lifting from Picasso?

It sort of muddles up the issues for me…

Karma is a b-tch…(rhymes with ditch)…

Robin Hood was stealing from the rich, who theoretically were stealing from the poor…So is Robin Hood a bad guy? No…He was just correcting an imbalance in karma…

Is Jeremy Scott a bad guy or is he just correcting a karmic imbalance? One should not steal from Picasso…(Despite that quote that copy artists will quote back to you saying that great artists steal…How annoying that people don’t know what an ironic statement is…or sarcasm…or humility…)

“Daffodil” a No-Weld armature made of galvanized threaded 10-24 steel rods, bolts & 1/2 inch copper strapping, with plumbing flange & nipple(yes that is what it is called) as a pedestal…Wrapped in aluminum screen mesh tied on with copper wire…by me, Sari Grove (2012) originally intended to be covered in homemade marble. Joseph said it was too pretty to cover up…So it stays as a sculpture unto itself…
