NO NO NO NO NO, fixed the Mobile App for readability & am learning what things mean in codeland…

So…

Late last night I go to check our new Mobile App I’m so proud of…

Realize…Can’t read a thing…

Icons are pretty but words are microscopic…

ARGH!

Confirm with Joseph…He’s like:”Can’t read it”…

“I know”…

So late last night I’m creating all new Icon assets in high contrast black text on white snowy backdrops with some ice for texture…

Thank God my Mum took that awesome iPhone pic of me with the two swans last week!

I needed some blue light, Northern, sunny, & the look she took was perfect…

Used this for every icon backdrop…! Yay MOMs!

Loaded it all up, republished the APP, went to sleep…

Woke up 6:30 am…OH NO…Have to re-record the contest submission video…Redo whole thing…Resubmit all…

Waaah…

But did it…(I actually stuck it in the APP after…It’s a good video I did…You can see the video within the APP if you do the first QUIZ, click SUBMIT, the page then whisks you to the entry submission video with an awesome SONG(by Ryan Huston, called Do what you love, from the album THIS LIFE)…

The APP is at bwell.mobi/grove

Now if you go to the APP on a desktop you get this page on the internet…

It has a Flash Gordon Icon, it has a description of the APP, it has a screenshot which is buggy & is not showing right now, & it has some weird choices which I am trying to figure out…

Ok first choice is DOWNLOAD the APP…

I got something called an APK file…Couldn’t open it…It was labelled grove.apk

Found out if I just change the apk to ZIP I can open it…

I’m on a Mac snow leopard desktop…10.6.8

So just change the name of the ending of the file from APK to ZIP…

Double click now it opens & you get all the ASSETS of the APP…

Neat…All my custom icons, their custom icons(their is Infinite Monkeys the App creator service I use…)

next choice is…

email link…

That one opens up my email server on my computer & puts a whole message in it…

You can see in the picture what it will say…2nd picture from the top…

The third choice is send link by SMS which means short message service, or something like that…

I don’t use SMS so I am not sure what to put in the box…Their phone number? Their email address? I’m guessing a phone number maybe that this is a text message thingy…

I will update this post when I doublecheck that…(ok, yes…From a desktop computer, just type in the cell phone number of the person you want to send the SMS to…That will send them a text message with a link to this awesome App…)

Last choice is View HTML APP…

That gives you the whole app but you can see it right away, from your Safari or Firefox or whatever browser you are on & it is totally interactive & totally works just like the app will on your iphone or other mobile device like Ipad or tablet or Android like your Samsung Galaxy phone…

So that is neat…

How to put a PayPal button on WordPress.com or in an email, like in a MailChimp mailing…

First you need the EMAIL version of the button code that PayPal spits out when you create your button…It comes out as a link…

(Make sure to click when making your PayPal button the “Save button at Paypal” choice in Step 2 of button creation…)

Then you need the IMAGE code for whatever button you want…I took the Make a Donation button code & used it below…

Then put that image in…The code…

Then in the Visual editor, not html or code editor, LINK that Image with the PayPal button link code you created in the create a button section of Paypal…

It works…Both on WordPress.com & if you send yourself an email…The only thing is you may have to click on “Load Images” for the Image of the button to show up…

Here is the LInk to the original post about how to put a PayPal button on WordPress.com http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

Here is what the code looks like in WordPress.com if I put it in the Visual editor instead of the Text editor…

It also works in an email…(My email provider fastmail.fm has an html or Rich text setting choice-I’m guessing most do)…

<code><a href=”https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&amp;hosted_button_id=63KXJ2SQ44L3E”><img alt=”Make a Donation Button” src=”https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/btn/x-click-but21.gif&#8221; /></a>(if you appreciate being able to read our book online, say so by sending us a monetary thank you!Sari Grove)</code>

Here is the button when I put it in the Text editor…(I hit “code” before adding any code in here)

Spheres Game: (I learned how to make a game today, so am sharing it with you, of course!)

woman

I am woman, hear me roar, in numbers too big to ignore, and I know too much to go back and pretend.

Helen Reddy
Image rendered in Blender 3d Game Engine ( a character in a new game) by me, Sari…

https://www.box.com/s/zjyl7dady6jodsrp3ac5 Spheres Game zip file(It is hosted on BOX which is a safe place!)…This is a Zip file of an App called Spheres Game that I made today using Blender Game Engine…(Blender 3d animation software is freeware that I am now enjoying learning)…Today I learned how to make a game…So this is what I was able to make today…(You download the zip file then when you unzip it the app shows up-just click to open)!

Below are the game instructions…basically you can move the cube forward backward or side to side using these keyboard keys, A, S, W, D …The picture below shows which way those keys move your cube…There are many Spheres also on the board…The object is to knock all the spheres off the deck WITHOUT letting your cube fall off…if your cube falls off before all the spheres are knocked off, you LOSE…If you succeed in knocking all the spheres off without losing your cube, you WIN…

Tell me how it goes…I am trying things out first easy peasy, so for later if I make a more complicated game I will know of any problems already…

instructions

Here is how the Game looks while you are making it…I am going to type in my how to notes later-too tired to do it now…(or watch the tutorial link in the description on the youtube page of this video-that is how I learned!)…

(The keys you need to push for the game if you download it…(The link to download the game Spheres is at the top of this post!)…

http://cgcookie.com/blender/2011/05/08/game-engine-create-a-basic-game/ Game Engine: Create a Basic Game by Jonathan Williamson…So I spent Saturday morning watching this video, stopping it a thousand times to write stuff down, used up 8 pieces of paper, & then tried to recreate some of the ideas…This is what I got!
Without telling step by step how I did this, because you can really just watch Jonathan’s video on Blender Cookie to get all that, I will say a few things…
Notes: Go to GAME ENGINE to get there…Put your screen into GAME LOGIC…Ok…
Understand that the Sensors, Controllers, & Actuators all have to get connected with that snaky node attachment thingy…Each time you want the figure in your game to move in one direction you have to create a new sensor with its controller & actuator…In the Sensor part you assign it to a key on your keyboard…So like I assigned W to be forward move, S to be backward move, D to be to the right move, & A to be to the left move…Note that the opposite of one move, like right is opposite to left, you just change the number in Linear velocity in the Actuator part to Minus…Figuring out which Axis, like X , Y, or Z, is actually weird…You press Start to start the game & Esc to get out…
There are some rigid body constraints you have to learn in the Physics area…But mostly it is really pretty easy actually & everything works once you grasp the concept! So watch the linked video to figure out the how…Because Jonathan Williamson is sort of new himself to Game Engine in Blender (though an expert teacher in other areas), he actually makes it easier to follow along…He does make a few mistakes on the way, but that is ok…Just scratch that out from your notes!

Update: How to save your game as an Application…
tutorialsforblender3d.com helped me here-but in 2.66a it is just slightly different-had to figure it out…

here are the steps…(How I did it)

I opened my already saved Blend file of the Game from my desktop…
That brings up all the correct setting for saving…(You start in Game Engine, with Game Logic, etc…)
Ok, so then you click FILE, then USER PREFERENCES MENU, Then ADD ONS…In there there is a sentence that comes up “Save as Game Engine Runtime” with a checkbox beside that…Check the Checkbox!
Now here is the 2.66a variation:
Go Back to FILE, Select EXPORT…In Export it gives you choices-choose Save as Game Engine Runtime…Choose that…
Now your files appear, the Blend game name is in the name box, you just choose where you want to save to(Desktop for example), then click the button at the right that says “Save as Game Engine Runtime(it’s in the normal ACCEPT place don’t worry)…
So you get an neat application icon on your desktop with the Blender logo & the name of your game…
To share it say on WordPress.com Blogs, first compress the file as a ZIP file using your Mac compress files button…Then upload to BOX.net to save & host the file…Grab the link or embed code from BOx.net & you can then stick that into your WordPress.com blog to share your game with people! That’s all! Neato Coolo!
